Root Canal Therapy
What is it?
In every tooth there is a very important area of soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains the tooth’s nerves, veins and arteries. Root canals are very small, thin divisions that branch off from the top pulp chamber down to the tip of the root. Unfortunately, sometimes this pulp becomes infected due to a deep cavity of fracture that has allowed bacteria to seep in and therefore it dies. Dead pulp causes increased blood flow and pressure and therefore when one eats or drinks it begins to hurt.
Why do I need therapy?
The tooth cannot heal by itself. Without any treatment this infection will spread to other parts of the tooth and therefore it will begin to degrade and the tooth can fall out. The pain will continue until one seeks dental attention. A cheaper alternative is an extraction, though it is cheaper it can cause surrounding teeth to shift crookedly and therefore result in a bad bite, in which cause you may need to look at the cosmetic dentistry portion of this website.
